John Witherspoon (1723-1794) was a Scottish-American Presbyterian minister, president of what is now Princeton University, and a signatory of the United States Declaration of Independence. He played a notable role in American education, religious matters, and politics, particularly during the formative years of the United States.
Freer Art Gallery courtyard – The Freer Gallery of Art, part of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., was built to house the collection of Charles Lang Freer. The construction of the Freer Gallery of Art began in 1916. The gallery was officially dedicated in 1923 and opened to the public on May 9, 1923. It showcases Asian art as well as American art from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
