Map of Cleveland Park
Cleveland Park was named after President Grover Cleveland, who established his summer estate called Oak View in the local area in the 1880s.
The neighborhood is known for its variety of well-preserved historic architecture in the styles of Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and Mediterranean Revival.
Real estate agents say that Cleveland Park is "characterized by its tree-lined streets, spacious homes, and a strong sense of community" and that's not an exaggeration, it truly is rather green and has the benefit of being right up against both the National Zoo (which is heavily treed) and Rock Creek Park. Melvin Hazen Park and the Rosedale Conservancy are also within the area.
The Cleveland Park Metro station is on the Red Line, and several bus routes cross the area, too.
The John Eaton Elementary School and the National Cathedral School plus other private schools are close by.
While there are quite a few single-family homes, there are also apartment buildings and condominiums making up the homes of the estimated 7,600 residents.
