Marilyn Monroe in Washington DC
2602 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008
Painted by John Bailey in 1981 on the occasion of the birthday of the owner of Salon Roi, Roi Bernard. It is plainly visible at the intersection of Connecticut and Calvert Street.
A number of local businesses have taken up the job of upkeep on the mural and keeping the electrical lighting on it working. John Bailey returned to restore the image some years ago after it had faded considerably.
Considered a DC landmark due to its longevity and popularity, there are now similar murals around the city, for example a wall painting of a young Elizabeth Taylor that can been seen near the DC Convention Center.
