1998 Internet bill for 28.8 baud modem access - Erols Internet
Internet services across America were on their feet in 1998 but still rather rudimentary, and obtaining home internet service meant going to a kiosk (like the one Erols had at Springfield Mall, Virginia, a short ride over from DC by metro) and signing up after making a cash down payment (in 1998 dollars) and then going home and using your screeching phone modem to get online.

Circa 1998, Borders at 1801 K Street Washington DC
This Borders Books, Music and Cafe was in a building that took up half of a block, and though the official address says K Street, the entrance was over on the corner of L Street and 18th Street NW.
The address is now a Nordstrom Rack store (July 2024)
